Split air conditioners have gained immense popularity over the last few years, mainly because they look good and reduce noise inside the building. All major AC manufacturing companies produce different models of split conditioners. Some are single split, while others are multi-split, which means that a single outdoor compressor is connected with more than one indoor unit. They are energy efficient as well as consume very little space. Now that you have chosen your preferred air conditioner, you must be considerate about its installation. Improper air conditioning installation can lead to inadequate cooling, higher electricity consumption, and more frequent repairs and maintenance. So, here are a few things that you must consider while installing your split air conditioner.

#1. Choose the right wall for the indoor unit: Most commonly, the indoor unit of a split air conditioner is installed on the side wall of a room. But it largely depends on your personal choice, your room’s furniture setting, and access to an outlet from where you can pass a hose for connection with the outdoor compressor. However, while choosing the wall, make sure that it is strong enough to withstand the air conditioning installation. Make sure that the wall you are choosing is not a false one, and it does not have an uneven surface. Also make sure that it is at least 7-8 feet above the ground, as this height would ensure even cooling of the room from all sides.
#2. Choose a proper location for the outdoor unit:Â You need to choose the location of your outdoor unit too with utmost care and consideration. The outdoor compressor installed at the perfect spot can have great impact on the cooling function of the air conditioner. Make sure that the air conditioning installation of the outdoor unit is not done at a place that receives direct rainfall or sunlight. Also make sure that the unit is installed in an open space where the heat dissipating by the condenser is not hindered or blocked. You also need to make sure that the outdoor unit is placed at a flat and rigid surface. Since the outdoor unit contains most of the major parts of the air conditioner, including the fan, motor, compressor and condenser, it vibrates a lot during operation, due to which it needs a sturdy surface to be installed on. If not installed properly, the body may damage, the coolant may leak, the compressor may damage, and other unforeseen issues may arise. The aluminium brackets used for air conditioning installation of the outdoor unit should have some tilt angle. This tilt will allow constant flow of condensed water from the indoor unit through the drainpipe.

#3. Proper spacing: During an air conditioning installation, check if there is sufficient space between the body of the AC and the wall. An ideal space would be around 15 cm. This space will allow open space on sides and top of the AC unit to allow proper flow or air. Both the internal and the external units need some space for adequate breathing. Also ensure that the distance between the outdoor and the indoor units is kept to the minimum. When the refrigerant flows between the indoor and the outdoor units, a certain level of cooling effect is lost during the journey. So, you should keep this journey shortest by installing both the units as close to each other as possible. In any condition, this distance should not be more than 15 meters.
